Why Is Okay to Define Marriage by the Bible, but Not Okay to Legally Repress Women According to Sharia Law?

Question by I like Pancakes, Folks!: Why is okay to define marriage by the bible, but not okay to legally repress women according to Sharia Law?
Really, I don’t get it, why is one okay and the other not?
Further more, the bible is pretty specific about women’s role in society. They shouldn’t be wearing make up or even speaking in public, but yet I don’t see anyone wanting to define that either. Why do you think?
