Well, being that he made music for over 40 years and the music he made was wildly popular I’d say he made a lot of people happy with his music. There are a lot of people that say they grew up on his music.

Also he was one of the first people to try to tackle social issues with the power of music (we are the world).

There are alot of MJ haters because of the child thing but there is no denying that after 4 decades his music had a positive affect on society.

Michael Jackson influences society by his style of music and dancing, but perhaps most importantly, his later music taught about social concerns like racism, (Black Or White), social responsibility (Man in the Mirror), and environmental awareness (Earth Song).

He is, IMO, much like Bono, using his fame to bring attention to social causes and is involved in many charities, including establishing the Michael Jackson Burn Center for Children. Most notably, perhaps, he established the Heal the World Foundation, whose work has included sending supplies to Sarajevo, instituting drug and alcohol abuse education and donating millions of dollars to less fortunate children.

The Guinness Book of World Records, in fact, cites Michael as being the “Pop Star who supports the most charity organizations.”

Last but certainly not least, Michael Jackson is just badass.
