Bernard “Cocaine” King was playing probably in the late 1970s when part way through a game he had gone something like 6-13 from the field and 1-11 from the free throw with almost all of his misses from both the field and free throw line being air balls missing the rim by one or two feet. King’s few field goals were made at point blank range like layups. King didn’t make it down on defense on one possession and had the ball thrown to him in back court where King had an uncontested slam dunk. Problem was that King mis-timed his dunk and jumped too late and had the bottom of the rim block King’s attempted slam dunk. King went flying one way while an opponent, guard James Silas, went and recovered the ball in the corner with Silas never having gotten within 20 feet of King’s breakaway layup attempt. King was upset that his slam didn’t go and started yelling at the NBA ref while King pointed to Silas as King claimed that he was fouled by Silas. The ref had enough of King and ejected King.
