Why Is It Illegal to Smoke Weed?
Question by : Why is it illegal to smoke weed?
Best answer:
Answer by David
1. It is perceived as addictive.
Under the Controlled Substances Act of 1970, marijuana is classified as a Schedule I drug on the basis that is has “a high potential for abuse.” What does this mean?
It means that the perception is that people get on marijuana, they get hooked and become “potheads,” and it begins to dominate their lives. This unquestionably happens in some cases. But it also happens in the case of alcohol–and alcohol is perfectly legal.
Do You Believe Marijuana Is Bad, and Whether It Should Be Legal?
Question by Liam: Do you believe marijuana is bad, and whether it should be legal?
Personally, I think there is nothing wrong with it. The only thing that can make its use “suggestive”, is that it’s illegal. The reasons for its legal status are not very noteworthy, either. Companies from the early 1900’s knew that hemp was going to bankrupt them all, because of all of its uses. Thus, those companies made things such as Reefer Madness to scare the public into thinking marijuana is immoral and should be illegal. The government should see now that studies are and have been conducted, and pointing towards the idea that marijuana is not bad, and even has many varying health benefits. If marijuana were legalized, law enforcement could stop worrying about the use of marijuana, and crack down on the use of harder drugs with horrible addictions, and harmful effects, such as meth. Anyways, that is how I view the cannabis plant. I believe it should be legal, and is a gift from nature. However, I do respect the opinion of others, and if you think that marijuana is not your thing, or something of that sort, then that is fine. But please do not go around telling people it destroys your brain, and ruins your life, and kills you. That is just not true. I do not wish for a fight here, just looking for others views on this subject.
If Guns Are Legal Why Not Marijuana?
Question by Elston gunn: If guns are legal why not marijuana?
Marjiuana is illegal because of its harmful effects. Yet it has not been implicated in any deaths as the primary cause.
Guns are legal, and they cause around 30,000 deaths annually. What is the logic behind the illegality of marijuana then? There are many things that cause more harm than marijuana and are legal. Is it because people in power are afraid of substances that would alter people’s perception?
Someone will answer “… the 2nd amendment” I’m talking ethics, not the constitution– if something such as gun laws doesn’t make sense ethically, then we should amend the constitution. If the fact that we already made a law for something is the only reason to keep it that way, that’s not enough.
