... safety to WSFA-TV12 – In a special report on Trucking Safety, WSFA-TV12 reporter Samuel King spoke to Susanne Esdale, who was seriously injured in an accident involving an 18-wheeler in July 2003. Ms. Esdale is the mother of Beasley Allen attorney Graham Esdale. A teenage girl was killed in the same accident, which ultimately involved seven cars. When Beasley Allen investigators began to examine the facts surrounding the multi-car crash, the driver of the 18-wheeler was found to have smoked cocaine less than an hour prior to the accident. The WSFA report is part of a special series examining the rules that commercial truck drivers are required to follow, and what happens when safety violations occur. Often, these big rig accidents result in catastrophic injury and death.
