Why Is Dependence on Some Drugs Okay but Not Others?
Question by Captain Flatulence: Why is dependence on some drugs okay but not others?
Do not confuse “abuse” with “dependence.” Most folks think it’s no big deal if they take anti-depressants, cholesterol lowering drugs or high-blood pressure medications every day (dependence). But as soon as someone says they take Xanax or Valium or Vicodin everyday, there’s a whole different attitude about it.

All drugs are not alike. Some drugs, such as aspirin, are milder than others. Many drugs are mind-altering, and therefore more dangerous. It is always best to have a doctor monitoring your useage, including over-the-counter drugs.
Hist Ch Cocaine History Between the Lines ¦ 720p [2/6]
Hist Ch Cocaine History Between the Lines ¦ 720p [2/6] – This two-hour special goes inside the history of the second most used illicit drug in America. The human appetite for this narcotic goes all the way back to 3000 BC, when South Americans chewed coca leaves, thinking they were a gift from God. But it wasn’t until 1855, when cocaine was first extracted from the coca leaf and used in powder form that its use spiked. Initially it was utilized as an anesthesia. Soon, famed psychologist Sigmund Freud touted it as an effective cure for depression and impotence. In 1886, John Pemberton, an Atlanta pharmacist, added it to his new soft drink: Coca Cola or Coke for short. In 1914, the drug was outlawed, but the damaged had been done. The 70’s ushered in another boost in the drug’s use, fueled in part by new drug cartels in South America. To combat cocaine’s rise, the Reagan administration started the War on Drugs in the 80’s.

Question by nubio36: What is the correct medical name for Joints cracking when moving?
This is a symptom my husband is having after a long few days of extreme side effects to a medication called Avalox. When he moves he is in extreme pain and the bones make cracking sounds as he moves, I’m trying to find this “bone/joint cracking” thing in symptom checkers and there’s nothing so I’m looking for a medical term for this. (PS. Yes we have been to doctors and to ER, we are in Ottawa Ontario so they are doing bugger all, we’re trying to self diagnose now.)
