I’ve been looking around at help forums and medical websites, and mostly it’s just these internet jerk doctors telling these all these people who are practically begging for help that “It’s a hallucination blah blah stop doing meth.”
As if that was the ONLY cause of formication. Unsympathetic sods.
Anyhow, does anyone know, from experience or science, of anything I can do right NOW to sort of calm the sensation down? Like, I dunno, exercise or taking a relaxing shower or meditating or finding something to focus on. Anything?
For anyone who may be googling this same question, there’s one other thing I’ve found helps. When I’m trying to lay back and relax, I wrap myself in a blanket just tightly enough to feel firm pressure around my shoulders/neck (where it’s most crawly for me). The sensations might not go away but you may feel less jumpy. Also tie up your hair if it’s long, because having it brush against your skin mimics the formication feeling which can be annoying.

From what I know, you’ve already done some research on tactile hallucinations and grounding techniques.
Go back and read more or ask your doctor.
Try to focus on one part of your body. Maybe try touching an ice cube and only focus on the sensation of cold.
Whenever you feel In a good mood and don’t have any hallucinations, I want to to create a psychological association.
Focus on feeling nothing and the mood your in and touch the back of your wrist calmly. Whenever you feel in this great mood, I want you to touch the same place as you did before. Do this for a week.
After 1 week, whenever you have these hallucinations, I want you to touch (Just the once), the back of your wrist like you did before.
It’s a great technique, but use it sparingly. Otherwise it won’t work properly.
