Lowe’s sells some of the stuff (like the kind that goes around sinks and bathtubs) in containers similar to toothpaste tubes… its the same stuff just a smaller quantity.
When I read your question at first I thought it was asking how silicone substance could be applied TO a senior and I was thinking “that’s probably not the best idea”.
Hope this helps.

You can split open the tube of silicone towards the top and use a small tool like a tooth brush handle and “scoop” the silicone onto the handle and spread it into the area needing caulked. You can uses your finger to smooth out the caulk, after it is applied. Silicone doesn’t need to be applied with a caulking gun except when you need to “inject” it into small spaces. However, you can apply it to small tight spaces with a sponge, “squeezing” it into the cracks. Good Luck
