Do You Feel That Watching Soap Operas Is Detrimental to a Person’s Psychological Well-Being?

Question by Chelsea Dagger: Do you feel that watching soap operas is detrimental to a person’s psychological well-being?
Many refer to the daily watching of a soap opera as an “addiction” (which is possible). Do you feel that a regular consistent dose of scandalous and sometimes extreme emotion provoking soap opera entertainment can have a negative effect on a person’s mental well-being? If so, how?

No way. When ppl hav time they watch it. When they don’t they catch it later. You are “addicted” as long as you are free.

Nope. I watch it purely for entertainment and it’s great when they educate you as well. Like the current bullying story line on OLTL. So many parents are like Rex,Gigi and Blair that they have no clue what’s happening in schools these days. Perhaps it will open up a dialog between parents and children.

Although I’m sure some of this stuff has happened in real life it’s not to the extreme in the plots but trust me it does happen. all you have to do is turn on your local news and see that reality is stranger than fiction.

As long as you except the shows for what they are and can separate the fact from fiction, you can remain psychologically intact. Now if you start acting like these are real people then, there may be a problem.
