Are People Who Recorded Police Being Set Free?

Question by RkgjbherjlFGUBA: Are people who recorded police being set free?
Ok now everyone knows IT IS NOT illegal to record cops when their on duty esp. if your in a public place etc. the courts have also backed that as a american citizen you have every right to record them and your rights are protected but there are still people who before this became wide spread known that was locked up and charged. so my thing is now that the courts are stepping in and saying enough its not illegal to record and yes you have the right if people who are still in jail for this going to be released since it would be a clear wrongful arrest and violation of our rights? and then those who did get charged if they go back to court and sue wouldnt they win since there rights was violated i mean it should be a open and shut case and the money awarded to the civilian
to impaler19120: your a cop so your reasoning is already wrong because any law that is unconstitutional even if the state passes it if it conflicts with the Constitution then it wont hold like i said we are protected to record cops when we want and for the whole interception of conversations that yall try to use holds no weight cuz when in public you cant awesome you have ANY privacy and this goes for cops also your not above the law just because you have a badge on and if someone recording a cop from a distance is interfering with the police then what do t hat say about the dash cams?those are even closer yet the cops somehow manage to do their job just fine..and you find it fairly immature to ask this question when time and time again cops break laws and violate rights and lie about it then when someone comes forward cuz they got it on camera they try to cover it up??and if you have to to get “pushy” because someone is “smart mouthed” then your need to be evaluate

if you cant handle words cuz then your saying its ok to push someone around for freedom of speech?that’s right because when your a cop you get to decided who have rights and when..”Why aren’t you out videotaping the drug dealers, or hold up men in your neighborhood? They cause far more harm, wouldn’t you think, than a police officer who gets a little pushy arresting a smart mouthed kid? How about videotaping Burglars or rapists?” again here is your small brained cop thinking,so if someone tries to hold me up with lets say a gun im suppose to tell him hold on dont take my phone i want to record this i know you believe in my right to record even tho your mugging me..thanks..smh you a idiot i guess if i was a girl or a bystander i should tell the rapists hold on let me get this on film real quick? again your statement holds no weight so when someone sees a cop doing something wrong thats why we record it because if we see a cop beating up a guy justified or not we ca
cant just break it up now can we?now that would be “interfering” recording a cop breaking a guy down is not…and then when citizens see people fighting other people or stealing or so have you they either step in and try to stop and call the cops.and yet again another one of your statements is poor the dashcam isnt jus so the cop can be protected it protects both the cop and whomever is involved cuz when a cop lies or defendant lies the camera will show the truth thats if the cop has it on cuz lets face it theres plenty of videos online of cops breaking laws and covering them up but when the video comes out captured on their own dashcam…

to MoTo: no i am not a criminal in fact if it wasnt for me recording my buddy skateboarding i wouldnt have captured this cop who was looking around for witness before he started kicking this male who was cuffed and face down on the ground i saw and recorded the whole thing from the bbeginningto where he cuffed the guy put him on the groun
d and then later came back and started kicking him for no reason other than he didnt want the cop to search his car because he did not break any laws and he simply had it parked cuz he was the person who drove us to skate the spot so there was no reason the cop had to stop him there was no reason for him to cuff him or beat him. and we live in a “nice area” so if cops are doing this here unseen then yea im against cops cuz if it wasnt for us hiding my friends ribs wouldve been broken for no reason other than he knew the cop needed a wwarrantto search his parked locked car that he wasnt even in but leaning on?? if it wasnt for us recording somehow my friend wouldve been a criminal and resisted arrest aassaulteda officer and failed to identify himself even tho we where on public property and did nothing wrong? oh and the cops dash wasnt on so it was his word vs a cop? yea but when we showed the video things ssuddenlychanged..its people like you who give up their rights so thing
like this can happen to innocent people and cops keep thinking its ok to violate rights..so for your minding your p’s and q’s statement that holds no weight

When laws change they are not retroactive get a lawyer and there’s a chance there sentence could be converted to time served.

I haven’t heard of any cases of someone being arrested for recording the police. The misconception that it was illegal was actually a civil crime – so there wouldn’t be an arrest anyway.

I think the cases you are referring to is when a person interfered with police while trying to record them. Typically as long as you stay 30 feet away and don’t speak, shout at or distract the police you would be ok.
