1. ASPD is diagnosed base on patient history and symptoms. Some researchers argue that ASPD and alcohol or other drug (AOD) abuse and dependence are linked. But ASPD is most closely linked with psychopathy as measured by the Psychopathy Checklist-Revised test (PCL-Revised) (see 3.)

2. It is an actual disorder in the (American Psychiatric Association)’s view in the DSM III-R / DSM-IV-TR (latest version of the diagnostic statistical manual – shrinks Bible) “A pervasive pattern of disregard for, and in violation of, the rights of others that begins in childhood or early adolescence and continues into adulthood. Deceit and manipulation are essential features of the disorder therefore it is essential in making the diagnosis to collect material from sources other than the individual being diagnosed. The individual must be 18 or older…documented history of conduct disorder before the age of 15…referred to as sociopaths and psychopaths…”

The World Healtth Organizaiton (WHO) takes a similar stance in its ICD-10..but refers to it as: psychopathy, sociopathy, asocial personality, amoral personality, as synonyms for dissocial personality disorder
