You would have to get a master’s in like counseling, which has to do with Psychology.

To be a school counselor, you usually need to earn a Master’s Degree in counseling psychology (M. Ed. — Masters Degree in education with an emphasis in counseling) and many colleges and universities offer such a degree. Usually, the degree will be offered by the School of Education rather than by the psychology department. I don’t think a Master’s Degree in social work would do it for you since you wouldn’t have the necessary background in psycho-metrics (testing). Part of what school counselors do is administer psychological tests such as standardized I.Q. tests, tests for learning disabilities, aptitude tests, etc., so a background in psycho-metrics is necessary for you to get licensed as a counselor. Having said that, however, I don’t see any reason why your undergraduate major couldn’t be social work if that’s what interests you.
