Exactly What Constitutes as an “Accidental Overdose”?
Question by Paigeybear: Exactly what constitutes as an “accidental overdose”?
So if a person dies of an overdose and there’s no evidence/knowledge that they had suicidal tendencies it’s considered accidental? I guess that’s mainly what I wanted to know.

Could be many scenarios. One could be you took too high of a dose of a med. Someone who shoots up heroin and just doesn’t know when to stop. Someone who smokes too much crack cocaine. As long as you didn’t mean to kill yourself it is considered an accidental OD.
Geo- I was giving scenarios. And as a patient advocate, a paramedic visits patients in the hospital regularly. I have revived more people from Nalaxone than you could count to. The most common reason they OD’d is exact words “I didn’t know when to stop”. Regardless your drug dealer theory is not at all wrong. In fact that was a great scenario that i can give you credit for. But i have to go into work tomorrow. I will work 0700-0700 the next day and will probably get my usual 5+ OD’s. I work OD’S every shift and spend years in school studying them. Not to mention you make it seem like you need a PHD to be a drug addict. Every OD i work i have some drug addict tugging at my arm telling me where to put my IV’s.

It could. All depends. Not knowing the cause of a death would constitute an autopsy to be performed. But at the same time Anna Nicholes death was considered accidental. However she had reason for suicide due to her sons death and i believe failed at suicide before. It is all dependent on individual cases. Jimmy the attorney below me may be able to tell you the basis of autopsy’s and death rulings better than i can.
