Should We Ban Smoking in All Open Spaces?

Question by twise0505: Should we ban smoking in all open spaces?
I have to spend time in outpatient department in my local hospital.
When I leave the Cancer Clinic there are many smokers puffing away right next to a “No Smoking Sign”.
When I point this out to them I get a lot of verbal abuse, I no longer say anything but I wish that they would ban smoking in all public places especially outside hospitals and doctors surgery.

In my city, El Cajon, CA, an ordinance was passed banning smoking in any place where the general public my go.
That even means in your own front yard if it is near the sidewalk. Common areas in apartment buildings. You can’t even smoke in your car if your window is open.
I was happy to see it but, people still do it and it irritates me now more than ever because no one attempts to abide by it.
What sucks even more is that if someone is smoking, you have to request that they put it out. If they don’t, you can call the police but as you know, they’ll be done and have the last laugh.
Smokers are some of the rudest people I have met.

I think they shouled ban it. Not only does smoking make you sick but others as well. Smoking is the most disgusting thing ever. The first answerer was a little harsh by saying “Smokers are the rudest people I have ever met”. Because some are nice. My grandpa died from smoking, so I can relate to smoking related accidents. The peoples moking at the hospital should be given a warning then have security called on them.
